As the sun came up over the Hatta hills this weekend, a group OCR Nation members were already on the start line for yet another set of races. This time the team had members competing in road races of 21k, 10k and 5k, and a 2.5k trail run.
While these races were without obstacles, they offered some brutally tough inclines to tackle, including a run over the Hatta dam for the longer distances. But all that effort would be rewarded with one of these beauties.
Marie, Manoj and Fady all led the way, setting off first in the 21k. The 10k started just 5 minutes after that with Gordana, Edward, Aruba, and Thana all representing the team.
The 5k started shorty afterwards and saw a whole bunch of OCR Nation members take part. Suhail returned to the track as his journey back from injury continues and Corey, the long lost member of the team, also made it to the race, despite the bookies laying long odds against an appearance! The race also featured Mo Balooshi, Paddy and Mo Bellah.
After finishing the 5k and taking an hour to rest, Paddy and Mo Balooshi were back in the mix in a 2.5k trail run which wound through the rocky track around the Hatta Fort Hotel grounds. You could see by their expressions on the start line that they meant business.
The races were a huge success for the team and OCR Nation managed to have a whole swathe of team members standing on the podiums in the prize giving ceremony.
In the 21k, Fady took the bronze medal for 3rd overall in his age group.
In the 10k, Gordana managed to finish 4th overall and 1st in her age group for a gold medal.
The 5k event was where OCR Nation dominated the podiums with Corey (who should have been awarded a medal just for turning up!) finishing 5th overall and 2nd in her age group. Suhail's return from injury was a success as he took the gold medal for finishing 1st in his age group and 14th overall. Mo Bellah won a silver medal for taking 2nd place in his age group and 12th place overall. Paddy took 3rd overall in the race and 1st in his age group, sharing his first ever podium with Mo Balooshi who took 2nd overall and 2nd in his age group.
Mo Balooshi and Paddy were back on the podium again in the 2.5k awards after again finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively, which was 1st and 2nd in their age group.
The event was truly a roaring success for the whole team and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We also took the chance to ensure all members of the team got their moment on the podium and shared it together.
Huge thanks go to Super Sports Events for putting on such a fantastic event. The course was a challenge. the scenery was picture perfect and there was more free water and Gu packs along the way than we have ever seen in a race!
This was a great warm up for the next big event on the calendar, the Spartan Sprint which is due to take place in Al Ain Zoo, where OCR Nation are bringing a team of over 130 people. We will see you all there!
